After reading about it,
particularly in the Times where it sounded so scary, I brought my coffee and self over to the new plaza at 23rd and Broadway recently. And I liked it. It felt very safe, tho some places more than others, for instance seating farther away from traffic. All in all tho, it's a very pleasant seating area, made all the more interesting with the knowledge that you are sitting in what used to be Broadway traffic, as said traffic gently whizzes by you. I would def bring any visitors there for an afternoon of coffee and traffic watching. AM New York's Urbanite blog recently
spied Gothamites enjoying a similar situation a few blocks up as well.
