Street Team Hustles Napoleon Da Legend CD (With Audio)

Street promoters work the corner of 59th Street and 5th Avenue during the recent cold snap, trying to put the CD of aspiring rap stars into passersby hands. Though you'd think that would be a tough sell on such a corner, the one on the left succeeded in slipping me a CD, The Myth or The Legend, by Washington D.C. based Napoleon Da Legend. Listen to the fourth track on the album, "Ruff Kut (Intermission)," in the player at left.

Asobi Seksu - New Years Live in NYC at The Japan Society Saturday April 12, 2010, as part of the Society's j-CATION festivities, covered here in The Wall Street Journal.

During the intimate performance in front of approximately 230 fans who paid $5 a ticket for the under the radar show, singer Yuki Chikudate explained this was the first time in a few years the band played "plugged in," having been playing acoustic sets up until now, as well as recording an acoustic album at Olympic Studios in London. What's more, Chikidate informed the audience, this was to be one of their last live shows for a while; the band is ready to hunker down in the studio to record new material for a new album. "We hope you'll be here when we get back," she offered, "and we hope you'll like it."

House For Sale: Prince Street

Saw this gentleman on Prince St selling house music on CD. He goes by DJ NYCK, and clearly knows how to create a bit of sanity and sanctuary for himself on a little slice of sidewalk in New York City. I mean, cmon, check out that garden! Men who rock out with their own personal gardens are, far the most part, hotter than any of those you'll see on The Sartorialist, save for elderly european men maybe. So now you know.

You can see in the photo at right, his play on words doesn't end with the sign at his feet. His discs contain real estate jargon, and his business is called "Soulful Real Estate Locations." Indeed.

Subway Musician Prof. Edwardo Alvarado

Often seen at the 34th St BDFV NRQW Station, Prof. Edwardo Alvarado plays his keyboard with the help of three band members and a belly dancer, who play a trumpet, sax, and violin respectively as the belly dancer continues her routine the entire time, never stopping for even a moment. The CD Edwardo sells at his feet notes that he "graduated in the Music Conservatory of Viena - Austria, Ex - Director of the Symphony Orchestrain Gauyaquil - Ecudaor." (YouTube)
