Wild Fruits (And Drugs) In Manhattan

Take a walk down West 44th Street, btw 10th and 11th, and you will find a wild blackberry bush growing on a fenced off hillside overlooking Amtrack tracks. The fruit from the healthy and strong bush is somewhat challenging to access, but determined folk should have no problem. Here is a blackberry picking guide.

Related, and maybe more important to many of you who do the pot: independent of each other, City Room and Gothamist have both recently discovered marijuana growing in the wild as well.

Build Your Own Taxi

New York City taxi cabs in need of repair can make their way over to West 44th Street between 10th and 11th where a cluster of auto body and mechanical repair shops make their living. Anyone looking to customize their own motor vehicles with an iconic yellow cab fender or hood could also check the dumpsters out front.

The taxis pulling in for repair look a bit different from the envisioned taxis of the future.

Also interesting, West 44th Street runs directly over what I think is the Amtrack line, which passes through underneath; you can see the rail lines from either side of the street. Check it out on Google Street View.
