TrustoCorp vs. Mr. Brainwash: Manufactured Drama
Trustocorp tags Mr. Brainwash on the wall of Lasso Pizza at Kenmare Street.
In what is shaping up to be the street art world's very own Andy Kaufman vs. Jerry Lawler, TrustoCorp, the street sign embellisher, has begun a campaign against Mr. Brainwash's work. They "...took out Mr Brainwash in Manhattan," TrustCorp bragged, adding, "It had to be done."
Why it had to be done is not evident. Sure, MBW is reviled by many, but TrustoCorp's streetsigns, what they hang their hat on today, are arguably even less interesting. And the chosen stencil, "Locals Only No Fakes No Phonies," juvenile in its design and implications, seem almost to lampoon themselves.
NYC The Blog has reached out to TrustoCorp for further comment, as well as Lasso Pizza to see what their take is, and will update with any new information. Unfortunately for Trusto, unlike the Andy and Jerry feud, it's not clear if anyone actually cares about this one.
